Mission Statement:

The Mission of Hammons Education Leadership Programs, Inc. (HELP) is to provide educational services to at-risk children through programs aimed at dropout prevention, enhancing vocational skills, counseling, mentoring and intervention services.

HELP will develop linkages with employers or professional organizations for the purpose of assisting in the professional growth of youth by developing the necessary soft skills to ensure career success.

The GOAL of HELP is to expect the best of itself and others, and to do all it can to support the attainment of these goals.

What do I need to do become a mentor?

Willingness to be of service. Desire to share your talents and experience with a young person in a one-to-one relationship. Sign up on this page. Have the opportunity to change lives.

How much time will I need to invest ?

Training and qualification will be no more than 4 hours. Add to this 4 hours a month for four months is 16 hours for a total of 20 hours. So, a total of 20 hours, half a work week, to change the life of a young person.

What is an M&M?

M&M stands for mentor-mentee training teams.

How do they get together?

HELP will provide the transportation both for the student (mentee) both to and from your workside at the time mutually agreed upon for one afternoon a month for four months.

What if I am retired, or do not have a specific worksite?

If you are approved as a mentor, a jobsite appropriate to your skills will be provided for you to meet with the student that has been assigned to you.

Can I mentor more than one person at a time?

No, this is a one-to-one program.

How often can I be a mentor with HELP?

4 months on, and 4 months off.

Is a mentor held legally responsible for the mentee?

No, the mentee has full liability coverage at all times.

Will I, as a mentor, have other opportunities to interact with my mentee?

Yes, there will be regular social gatherings and other events scheduled by HELP for both the mentor and mentee.
